In accordance with the values of respect and commitment that Benkei conveys, Benkei consultants are present throughout the mission and are all shareholders of the company.

Value proposition

We operate in a co-development logic, and thus favour long-term and/or partnership-based approaches. In essence, all our interventions are tailor-made for our clients.

Benkei’s service offer is part of a global approach, from the definition of an innovation strategy, through the generation of ideas, the structuring into projects, the transition from project to product/service, scientific publications, market studies, up to the commercial development phase and commercial material.

Benkei is recognised for its support in project definition, engineering and financing, so that your projects can be integrated into a long-term global innovation and financing strategy. Our approach takes into account indirect financing upstream, such as the Research Tax Credit, through close support all along the way.

Finally, Benkei has particular expertise in open and collaborative innovation, and in setting up and managing collaborative projects (H2020 and Horizon Europe, ANR, EUROSTARS, PSPC etc.). Benkei has specifically acquired extensive experience in the EIC Accelerator program through several successful projects.

Information

At Benkei since 2019, I have been working with start-ups as well as ETIs in the key phases of their innovation strategy, their commercial marketing and their search for financing (EIC Accelerator).

Career

After more than 6 years in public research in France (CEA Leti, Grenoble) and in the USA (UC Los Angeles), I participated in the creation of a start-up in the USA (San Francisco) in microfluidics for the isolation and analysis of cancer cells from blood. As co-founder and chief scientific officer, I have notably: conducted market studies, developed successive technological iterations (consumable and instrument), set up collaborations with KOLs for the use of the technology for different cancer types and downstream applications, participated in the construction of the business plan, fundraising, first sales, managed a patent portfolio and handled scientific publications and communications.

Information

Passionate about R&I, I am also involved in various actions related to this profession. In particular, since 2018, I have been President of the Association of Innovation Consultants. I am the director and co-founder of AEIC, a European association bringing together colleagues from all over the continent.

Career

As an engineer in industrial engineering from INSA Lyon, I have specialized for more than 20 years in supporting collaborative R&D projects, innovative companies and innovation players.

In particular, I supported more than 200 collaborative projects at French and European level (including more than 100 European projects since the 4th FP), in various fields such as telecommunications, health, energy, nanomaterials, etc… I also provided guidance to several companies and entrepreneurs in defining their innovation strategy.

After 7 years as Head of the “collaborative R&I projects” activity for the French leader in innovation consulting, I founded Benkei in 2014 with the ambition to converge financing consulting and strategy consulting, and to propose an original innovation consulting offer.

I joined Benkei in March 2019 with the desire to support companies in their development strategy, through the design of tools for European projects management (financial modelling, Business Plan, Business Model). Since then, I have been involved in supporting European collaborative projects (RIA, cascade fundings) and single-partner projects of European (EMFF) and national (PIA 3) dimensions.

Career

Trained in the fields of Biology, with a focus on Physiology and Neurosciences, I quickly had the opportunity to apply my skills in research laboratories as well as hospitals. Stimulated by project dynamics, I then completed this training with a professional certification in project management, which materialized the same year by obtaining, with my team, the creativity prize in the Campus Création entrepreneurship competition.

Why Benkei?

Benkei (pronounced bèn-ké-i) is the name of the company and its preferred brand name.

Benkei (弁慶) is a sōhei (warrior-monk), companion of the samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune. Generally described as very strong and loyal, he is one of the favourite subjects of Japanese folklore. Although his existence is proven, it is nowadays impossible to distinguish truth from legend in the stories of his life.

As a consulting firm, Benkei wishes to be inspired by the values of loyalty and honour of this legendary character, and his ability to “put himself at the service of”.

Benkei is a member and director of the the Association des Conseils en Innovation, the main association representing the innovation consulting professions, and has the OPQCM label.
